DIAMOND HEAD

Named by British sailors who thought crystals in the rock were diamonds

Things to see: Diamond Head Lighthouse (walk to the right when you reach the beach), kite/wind/regular surfers from the lookout point, whales (December - April), Hawaiian monk seals

Good for: all forms of surfing (check wind and wave report), tide pools, snorkeling, privacy, long walks, shaded areas

Amenities: showers (no bathrooms), free parking along highway and lookout point

Nearby: Diamond Head State Monument (easy hike), Shangri La Islamic Art Center, KCC Farmer's Market (Saturdays)

Caution: use the paved path to walk down to the beach, no lifeguard, falling rocks, lots of coral (not good for swimming/walking in water)
